Nigerians are lamenting – Dele Momodu writes memo to Buhari (Read the Full Message)

Ovation international CEO,Dele Momodu has written a memo to President Muhammadu Buhari asking him to as a matter of urgency fix Nigeria saying that Nigerians are lamenting that the change he promised is fast becoming a mirage and that Buhari is too slow.He also says Buhari doesn’t need to tell the world Nigeria is broke,as it only attracts ridicule.

Read the full memo bellow .

Your Excellency, it’s been months since I wrote my desperate memo to you. I wish to thank you once more for reacting promptly and swiftly at that time and for giving me the honour and privilege of meeting you in your office. I remember presenting you a special compilation of my articles, especially the many admonitions to your immediate predecessor, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.

After handing over the book to you, Sir, I promised to continue acting in my self-appointed capacity as Special Adviser because of the need to tell you what those very close to you might not be able to say. They might be afraid of you and your reaction.

The truth is you are a plain and simple man imbued with a mission and a passion to save this great country but you cannot do it on your own. You can only do it if people close to you, who should be advising you, tell you as it is so that you can do that which you were elected to do.

Sir, it is on the above basis that I’m back today for reasons some of which you probably know already from your own personal observations and readings. But before I go further, kindly permit me to set some records straight before some conspiracy specialists step forward to ascribe other people’s opinion to me. I shall clearly expose my personal views and state where I belong or stand for any avoidance of doubt. Everywhere I go people refer to me as Buhari’s man and ask “what’s your Baba doing ooo?”. I seriously have no problem with that. I’m proud that I joined so many other Nigerians as well as foreign friends in supporting a man of impeccable pedigree and solid integrity. No matter your view of President Muhammadu Buhari, one thing his bitterest enemies give to him is the fact that he is way above the level of most mortals in matters of uprightness.

This is why many of us volunteered to scream your name to high heavens and we were ready to follow you to Golgotha. Many of your opponents have not gotten over the thrashing you gave them and would forever seek everything and anything to smear you with. It is therefore not surprising that there has been so much noise about what you’ve done or left undone. Whether they are right or wrong in their assessment, I feel it is right and proper to let you know what people are saying about you including your most ardent fans and supporters. Sir, please, let’s not dismiss them as mere rabble-rousers.

A groundswell of public opinion can easily metamorphose into an ocean of disenchantment and cataclysmic confusion. In short, I believe your enemies are skilfully setting you up for failure in order to be able to taunt your supporters later by saying we “we told you so!” In this regard it is pertinent to always bear in mind the Yoruba saying ‘ehin kunle l’ota wa, ile ni a se ni ngbe’! Loosely translated it means “the enemy lurk outside in the backyard but your foe resides inside your house.”

What is the matter this time? Many Nigerians are lamenting that the change you promised them is fast becoming a mirage. It is certainly not what they are seeing right now. They insist that your style and methodology appear too slow for a nation in dire straits and in need of urgent and miraculous deliverance. They are not happy that you are no longer the prudent man they used to know. They think you’ve already capitulated by frolicking with members of the bourgeois class and junketing around the world while Nigeria burns like Dante’s inferno.

They are miffed that you are still keeping the Presidential fleet when you are supposed to have sold most of them off, if not all. They are worried that the mandate of four years they gave you is being unwittingly frittered away and before you know it all the goodwill you garnered would have evaporated and vamoosed. Time, they say, waits for no man!

The economy and the free fall of the Naira have become worrisome. There are all manner of rumours that may make matters worse, if true, about the current state and status of our banks. Though the Central Bank of Nigeria has come out forcefully to dispel the dangerous rumours, they want you to unleash your economic master-plan as soon as possible, so that what was once a baseless rumour does not somehow become harsh reality. They are expecting a blue-print that would guarantee a farewell to poverty. On this I agree with the opinion that something drastic has to be conjured up to arrest this drift to perdition. Nothing amplifies this monumental tragedy than the debit card fiasco which stipulates that Nigerians cannot live in a civilised world by walking into any international hotel or shop of their choice and paying with their cards. This is terribly depressing.

What this means in plain terms is that Nigerians must patronise the black market and run the risk of carrying cash recklessly whenever they travel abroad. It makes a mockery of the cashless society that the CBN has fought so hard to put in place and jeopardises your fight against corruption because government officials who travel abroad must of necessity carry large sums of cash if they are not to be embarrassed or even disgraced.

Sir, the most important thing is that this is not healthy at all. The last thing your Government should be telling the world is that we are so broke that we are on our knees. The world laughs at us and treats us with derision because we have resources other than crude oil which should make us one of the richest in the world if we properly harness them. We must stop giving the impression that we are so impoverished when it is leadership, brigandage and a lack of focus that has failed us.

The other matter that continues to embarrass Nigerians is the issue of Boko Haram. The matter is made worse by the fact that you are a retired army General who should know and have what it takes to drastically reduce if not exterminate the cankerworm. But rather the menace has exacerbated. It has snowballed into a seemingly unquenchable conflagration. I had argued repeatedly that the military alone cannot achieve this result. Intelligence seems to be the key word here. Also identifying and locating some of the cells and prominent sympathisers is crucial.

Those who arrogantly and naively say that no form of negotiation should take place are very far from the theatre of war. They have probably not heard of a group called IRA, the Irish Republican Army, that terrorised Great Britain for God knows how many years. I and my directors at Ovation International were lucky to escape a massive explosion that shattered the peace and tranquillity of London Docklands when a bomb went off inside the South Quay light rail station which was next to our office at Beaufort Court. The battle of wits and the war of attrition had to be fought using the carrot and the stick approach. It was the carrot approach that eventually succeeded and the United Kingdom has now been rid of that hitherto interminable scourge for many years!

The Boko Haram issue has defied every effort made so far and it is time to expand the options for the sake of our fellow citizens in the heart of this conundrum. When over 200 girls vanished into thin air, we were so sure they would return very soon but that has remained an illusion. This should tell us that this issue is not a joke and that we need to keep all windows open. Sir, Nigerians want to see government show a different approach and better compassion than what we had in the past. They are waiting to see how you will do this with minimum collateral damage.

Sir, you have a herculean task ahead but it is not a mission impossible. Other nations are experiencing almost similar challenges and they are forging ahead. The first indicator to exhibit our seriousness is when we stop the business as usual syndrome and tighten the belts of government officials and politicians. If the idea is to continue along the path of profligacy then Nigeria is contagiously jinxed. The Republic of Tanzania has already taken the lead. I will publish a report that has already gone viral below this letter as a veritable example of what is possible.

I wish you well as always Sir

Just In: Yahaya Bello Emerges Audu’s Replacement In Kogi

After extensive consultations, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is said to have agreed aan submitted the name of Yahaya Bello as the party’s new candidate for Kogi governorship supplementary poll.

Bello replaces late Prince Abubakar Audu, who died last weekend after leading the poll with 41,000.

APC has retained James Faleke as the party’s deputy governorship candidate. But will Faleke accept?

Mohammed Audu, the son of the late governorship candidate, was dumped by the party because the party felt that fielding him might vitiate the entire governorship poll in the state.

But sources say the people of Kogi West district were mounting pressure on Faleke not to accept Bello as the governor and himself as deputy.

Although they asked Faleke to withdraw from the race, the deputy governorship candidate was yet to make up his mind on the next step as at the time of posting.

According to reports, APC leaders, with the backing of some forces in the Presidency, opted for Bello because he came second in the party’s primaries behind Audu.

It was also gathered that the APC leaders felt there was no way Mohammed Audu could be fielded as a new compromise candidate since he was not a candidate in the primaries.

A top source in APC said: “Our leaders met and after consultations reached a conclusion on the choice of Yahaya Bello from Kogi Central as the party’s candidate to substitute the late Prince Audu.

“The leaders arrived at the conclusion because Bello was second to Audu at the validly conducted governorship primaries of the party. Instead of running into crisis with fresh primaries, the party opted to dust up the result of the previous one which was witnessed by INEC.

“A letter, signed by the National Chairman of APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, on the choice of Bello has been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday.”

Asked of other factors behind the choice of Bello, the top APC leader said: “Our leaders bought into the idea that Faleke is strange to the politics of the state, having had most of his political career in Lagos. They felt it is better for him to learn the ropes in the state before becoming a governor.

“They also argued that the choice of Bello will ensure power shift in the state and since the Ebiras were behind Audu, it won’t be difficult to foster understanding between Kogi East and Kogi Central Senatorial Districts.

“Do not forget that Kogi East had already produced the minister from the state.

“There was also some conspiracy behind the refusal of the ticket for Faleke. Some forces stamped their feet that he must not be allowed to step into Audu’s shoes because of internal power struggles in APC.

“I won’t give you names but the forces were more powerful than Oyegun and other NWC members.”

A different source said: “There are many options open to Faleke but the people of Kogi West want him to withdraw from the race. If Bello gets the ticket, he might be reduced to a dummy deputy governor.

“Unless Faleke can fight his cause in court and claim his mandate, he will be frustrated as a deputy governor. If he quits, the party will have justification for bringing Mohammed Audu.”

BREAKING: Court of Appeal Sacks David Mark From Senate

The Court of Appeal sitting in Makurdi, Benue State, has sacked former Senate President, David Mark from the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, declaring his election a nullity.

The APC senatorial candidate, Donald Onjeh’s case against Mark’s election was upheld by the court. The court therefore ordered INEC to conduct a re-run election for the senatorial district within 90 days.

Kogi lawmakers back Audu’s son, threaten to impeach any substituted candidate

APC Lawmakers in the Kogi state House of Assembly have thrown their weight behind the candidacy of Mohammed Audu pictured above, son of Late Prince Abubakar Audu, in the state supplementary election and have also threatened to impeach any candidate chosen to replace Mohammed in the December 6th supplementary election.

The Lawmakers made their position known after a meeting at the party secretariat in Abuja today November 27th.

One of the Lawmakers Momoh Rabiu, who spoke on behalf of the others said:

“Based on our discussion, we have taken a decision and taken our resolution to the national chairman. We are overwhelmed by the response from them, but we are still waiting for a safe landing so that Kogi will not be doomed. We told the national chairman that on no account should anybody be smuggled in to occupy that position which we worked for in conjunction with the late Audu, without who there would be no APC in Kogi State today. We presented to the national leadership Prince Mohammed Audu to replace his late father. It is not because he is the first son, but try him, he is very intelligent and equal to the task. With him, we will have the Kogi of our dream. We are the legislators and have told the national chairman our position that in any case anybody emerges contrary to what we present to them, we know the best way to remove him. It is not a threat, but we told them that we have no intention of washing our dirty linen in public. Removing somebody is just a two-minute job for us as lawmakers in the state. We want the change we worked for and we want Kogi to be part of the moving train. We are not asking Faleke to stay away from the ticket. We equally worked with him during the campaigns. What we are saying is that it should be Mohammed Audu/Faleke ticket. The two of them must work together,” he said.

The new technology which is peculiar to the new InnJoo 2, is the latest fingerprint detector and recognition algorithm and was launched onto the Nigerian market on Friday, November 20, at the Protea Hotel, Ikeja Lagos.

In his address at the launch of the phone alongside two others, Max 2 and Max 2 Plus, Robert Lians, the managing director of InnJoo Nigeria, said that the technology with which the products were manufactured matches the standard which other high-tech phones possess.

According to him: “We have developed this new technology with the aim of meeting with the Nigerian market. The battery lasts for about 72 hours, and the 3,200mAh battery was developed with a fast charge technology.

“This is not the first time we are launching our products in the country, but it is the first time we are bringing up three products at a time. The Max 2 and Max 2 Plus are also premium products which the users of internet will find pretty good.

“The beauty of the InnJoo 2 is the fingerprint technology. I can assure you that it has a 0.46seconds fingerprint sensor unlock, which is faster than what is obtainable on the i-phone as well other phones in that category.

'The Punisher' to run for president in the Philippines

A Philippine mayor nicknamed “The Punisher” because of his admitted links to “death squads” has shaken up the country’s 2016 election by officially entering the race for president.

Rodrigo Duterte, the mayor of Davao in the southern island of Mindanao, filed his certificate of candidacy on Friday to challenge President Benigno Aquino’s annointed successor Manuel Roxas III, a grandson of another former president.

Other major candidates include Vice President Jejomar Binay, who has been accused of corruption in the past, and current frontrunner Senator Grace Poe. Aquino is barred from seeking re-election as president.

News of Duterte’s decision, which analysts say could propel him to power but also reverse the country’s democratic progress, lit up Philippine social media on Friday.

Supporters called it a “game-changer,” but critics hit back by questioning his human rights record.

As recently as last October, in an interview with Philippine-based news website Rappler, Duterte said that he has no qualms about killing “criminals,” saying they have “no redeeming factor”.

In May, Duterte told a local station in Davao that while he does not covet the presidency, “criminals” better watch out if he is elected.

“I’ll dump all of you into Manila Bay,” he said.

For several months, the tough-talking mayor, who frequently talks in expletive-laden language, remained coy about his candidacy. But in recent days he took aim at leading candidate Poe, questioning her loyalty to the Philippines as a former US citizen.

On Thursday, he got a boost following a survey showing he is leading his rivals in the capital Manila. As a politician coming from the south, he has been perceived to have weak support from the north.

Dan Mariano, a Manila-based political analyst and columnist, told Al Jazeera that one of the biggest “fears” of many Filipinos is criminality, and Duterte’s record as a crime-busting mayor of the largest city in the Philippines appeals to voters.

None of Duterte’s rivals has offered a clear platform to deal with crime, making his presidency even “more appealing,” Mariano said.

But the drawback is that if Duterte gets elected, human rights would be relegated to the back burner, he added.

“I have been warning my friends, who are looking forward to a Duterte presidency, be careful what you wish for. I’ve seen this all before,” said Mariano, a victim of human rights abuses during the rule of Ferdinand Marcos that ended in 1986.

‘Unconscionable’

Duterte has the right to run for president, but voters should carefully scrutinise his record before supporting him, said Carlos Conde of Human Rights Watch in the Philippines.

“His bluster about killing people are all consistent with his rhetoric as mayor of Davao,” he told Al Jazeera.

“This same rhetoric has, we believe, encouraged the unlawful targeting of hundreds of people in that place since the 1990s,” he said, adding that victims included children.

“Encouraging people to extrajudicially murder other people is a clear manifestation of human rights abuse,” Conde told Al Jazeera. “To us this is high unconscionable.”

While Duterte’s brand of politics may be “refreshing” to voters, Duterte’s popularity “is a product of a breakdown of law and order” in the country, and the national government’s failure to address the problems”, Conde added.

“Ultimately, the public needs to look at him from the human rights perspective, and ask themselves, do we really want this guy to just one day barge into our homes without due process and kill us, just because somebody said that we are drug pushers, or we are criminals?”

Despite the criticism, Teng Magdamo, a native of Davao now living in Manila, said she is supporting Duterte because he is “genuine and straightforward,” and that he has been effective as mayor of Davao.

Duterte has been mayor for seven terms, presiding in total for more than 22 years. He has also served as vice-mayor and congressman in the city.

“He’s a very hands-on public servant. Anyone can just come up to him, with an issue and he will listen and he gets the ball rolling,” she told Al Jazeera.

“You may not get the resolution you want to your problem, but you come away with the sense that someone paid attention and at the very least tried to resolve it.”

She also said that she is not concerned with the allegations of human rights violations against the mayor, adding that there is no proof that he was directly involved in those killings.

‘Dirty Harry’ image

Now that he has formally declared his intention to run for president, Duterte could siphon support from the frontrunner Poe, who is facing a legal challenge because of her citizenship, according to Inday Espina-Varona, a journalist covering politics for the leading multimedia company ABS-CBN.

From upper-class voters to ordinary taxi drivers, potential voters are drawn to Duterte not just because of his “tough anti-crime platform,” but also because people see him “as basically free of corruption,” Espina-Varona told Al Jazeera.

“It’s not strange for people who feel vulnerable to latch on to a ‘Dirty Harry’ like Duterte,” added Espina-Varona, whose recent reporting also made her a target of threats.

“The funny thing is, Duterte’s followers insist that I, other journalists and all ‘good people,’ have nothing to fear because he only goes after ‘bad’ people. But that’s a slippery slope.”

For Myrish Antonio, a Filipino human rights lawyer and legal analyst at the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government, Duterte’s political philosophy that “it is better to be feared, than to be loved” is no longer relevant in the Philippines, especially after the experience of Marcos’ rule.

“There is a reason why our forefathers have fought hard for the freedom we now enjoy. To take away basic, indivisible, inherent human rights from citizens is not what government is for,” she told Al Jazeera.

“I believe today’s Filipinos are more aware, more informed, more discerning of leaders.”

Antonio said she also doubts if Duterte can win the presidency, because he has no strong political machinery to deliver the votes.

She also criticised him for taking too long to make a decision to run saying: “If he really wanted so bad to run, what took him so long to decide?

“Indecisiveness is not a good mark of a leader, who prides himself of having an iron hand.”

The general election is scheduled to take place on May 9, 2016.

Church member steals pastor's car

A supposed convert who went to a church in search of a wife material has ended up stealing the vehicle of a pastor of the church, Crime Reports has gathered. The culprit’s deed was exposed after he was arrested by the Oyo State Police Command recently.

It was learnt that the principal suspect, Wasiu Adetunji Lawal, led a criminal gang which stock in trade was to obtain cars from their owners under false pretences, only to divert and sell them. Other members of the gang named by the police include Wasiu Adetunji Lawal, Isiaka Babatunde, Jamiu Rahman, Wasiu Adelani and Abdulazeez Ahmed.

Disclosing the arrest to Crime Reports recently during a press briefing, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Leye Oyebade said that Lawal went away with the Toyota Sequia SUV belonging to one Pastor John Akorede Aderounmu under the pretext that he wanted to carry out some repairs, only to abscond with the vehicle.

“The suspect sold the vehicle to a criminal receiver in Kaduna State without the knowledge and the consent of the owner, and refused to respond to the owner’s calls when he demanded for the return of his vehicle.” Oyebade stated, adding that this led to police investigation into the whereabouts of Lawal and the vehicle.

The police commissioner further said that when Lawal was arrested, he confessed to have sold the vehicle, leading to the arrest of other suspects. Exhibits recovered from the gang include a Toyota Sequiao SUV, 13 vehicle particulars, nine forged Customs paper, number plate with registration number BH 299 BKA and other documents.

Oyebade said that his command was not unmindful of the fact that crime wave usually increases whenever the end of the year is approaching, adding: “This is why we have put various security strategies in place to curtail the activities of criminals within the state before, during and after the yuletide. It was the positive result of the strategies that led to the arrest of these criminals.”

In an interview, the suspect, Lawal, told Crime Reports that it was the victim who asked him to sell the vehicle and he had given him an additional N400,000 to add to the N800,000 which he realised from the sale, for him to buy a new one for the victim who believed his claim that he was a dealer.

He confirmed that Pastor Aderounmu was calling him but he could not respond because of a problem he did not disclose.

But the victim, Aderounmu, told Crime Reports that “the suspect (Lawal) came to our church, looking for a lady to marry. After a while, he got close to me. One day, he said he wanted to help me repair something in my car. He had earlier said that he was an auto dealer.

“He disappeared with my vehicle for three months before it was recovered from the person he sold it to in Kaduna. Before his arrest, I called him severally but he always told me that he would soon bring the car, unknown to me that he had already sold it. I never instructed him to sell the car as he claimed.”

‘Diezani’s Condition Worsens, To Be Flown Back To Visit T.B Joshua

The immediate family of former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison Madueke seems to have given up hope on the ailing health condition of their daughter.

This is just as the embattled ex-minister has ordered her relatives to jet her back into Nigeria this Friday as her condition grew worse last weekend.

My Social Naija exclusively gathered that the former oil Minister has not been responding to treatment since Thursday, a development that has been given the family sleepless night, hence her decision to return to the country in other to seek for spiritual help.

Mrs. Madueke has been bedridden in a London hospital following her removal as overseer of the oil ministry by the new government of President Buhari.

She’s said to be battling cancer.

A close insider who would not want his name in print, hinted that the family has concluded plans to visit popular Lagos-based Prophet, T.B Joshua of the Synagogue Church of All Nations for prayers.

“They have decided to fly her back into the country this Friday to seek for spiritual help. The condition worsened last weekend and she personally asked the family to return her to the country.

“She has not tasted any solid food since last Monday. She did not speak throughout Thursday. When she eventually spoke Friday morning, she ordered them to return her to the country to visit Prophet T. B Joshua for prayers,” the insider further added.

Meanwhile, the ailing former Minister had in a recent interview denied stealing a dime while in office.

According to her, she left $5.6billion in the NLNG account, contrary to the report that she milked the nation treasury dry before leaving office.

“I actually left $5.6billion in the NLNG alone but no one is talking about it. I’m not seeking to be praised but to be acknowledged that I made some little contributions.

“That money could have been wasted on frivolities but I was determined to keep something for the incoming government once we lost the election,” she said.

[BREAKING NEWS] KOGI GOVERNORSHIP ASPIRANT ABUBAKAR AUDU IS DEAD!

Prince Abubakar Audu, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC in the just concluded Kogi state election which the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared inconclusive is dead.

According to a family source Abubakar Audu, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Party (APC) in yesterday’s election in Kogi State, died as early as 5 a.m. Nigerian time on Sunday.

APC candidate Abubakar Audu voting yesterday before he went into coma and died

According to family sources, Mr. Audu started vomiting blood on Friday night in what family sources described as a bizarre deterioration in his health condition. One of the family sources described the late controversial politician as hypertensive.

“He started vomiting blood after he returned from Lokoja,” said the family source who witnessed Mr. Audu’s deterioration.

He added that Mr. Audu woke up very tired on Saturday, the day of the governorship election. He said doctors had given the former governor blood transfusion which gave him enough energy to go to the polling booth to vote in his hometown, Ogbonicha.

According to the source, Mr. Audu returned to his home on Saturday and began vomiting again. “After a while he became unconscious and died around 5 a.m. on Sunday morning,” said the source, who requested anonymity.

The family’s timeline of Mr. Audu’s death indicated that he passed on before officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) started collation and announcement of results.

A source at INEC told Naija247news that electoral officials knew of Mr. Audu’s death before they announced the results of his election inconclusive on Sunday.

Mr. Audu was a former governor of Kogi who was accused of stealing billions of naira from the state’s treasury.

The APC chose Mr. Audu as its governorship candidate despite the fact that he was being tried for  money laundering and embezzlement of state funds by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission  (EFCC).

Mr. Audu will be buried tomorrow according to islamic rites in his hometown.

According to an APC sources in Kogi State said he died a few minutes after INEC declared Saturday’s election inconclusive.

INEC returning officer for the election, Prof. Emmanuel Kucha of Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, said no party could be declared the winner yet since the numbers of cancelled votes was more than the difference between the first placed Prince Abubakar Audu of APC and the second placed Capt. Idris Wada of PDP.

Should the election not have been declared inconclusive the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Abubakar Audu, ought to have be declared the winner of the Kogi State Governorship election that was held on Saturday.

Prince Abubakar Audu, was the first Executive Governor of Kogi State and was born on 27 October 1947, to the family of his Royal Highness, the late Pa Audu Oyidi, Orego Atta of Igala Land and the paramount ruler of Ogbonicha-Alloma in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

He started his education at the then N.A. Junior Primary School, Alloma, and later N.A Senior School Ankpa, from where he proceeded to Dennis Memorial Grammar School, Onitsha. He later transferred to the Jos Commercial College where he obtained both the GCE O and A level

PDP senators protest as Tinubu occupies Ekweremadu’s seat

SENATORS of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) created a scene on Wednesday, when they stopped Senator Oluremi Tinubu from speaking from the seat of the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

Senator Tinubu had occupied Ekweremadu’s seat in his absence and remained on the seat almost throughout the sitting.

But the chamber erupted into uproar when the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, called Tinubu to second the motion in respect of the $200 million loan for Lagos State.

Senators of the PDP protested attempts by the wife of former Lagos State governor to speak from Ekweremadu’s seat, which they said was against the rules of the Senate.

As Tinubu rose to speak, the protest from the PDP wing of the chamber was overwhelming, forcing her to make some explanations.

She told her colleagues from the opposition party that she was on the seat because the microphone on her seat was faulty.

The plea was, however, unacceptable to PDP senators, who insisted that she must return to her seat.

Tinubu was quoted in the media during the life of the seventh Senate that she would emerge the Deputy Senate President in the eighth Senate.

Though an official explanation was given as to Ekweremadu’s absence, the Senate number two man, on Tuesday, escaped assassination attempt in Abuja.

Senator Tinubu eventually left Ekweremadu’s seat for her seat and demonstrated to the feuding PDP senators that her microphone was faulty.

She eventually asked a senator close to her seat for the favour to use her microphone to be able to second the motion moved by Senator Kabiru Gaya.

She was only able to speak after getting the permission to sit beside a neighbour senator to make her comments.

It was after the permission of the senator sitting beside her that she was able to address her colleagues.

She, however, returned to Ekweremadu’s seat and sat there for over one hour.

Also on Wednesday, Senator Saraki inaugurated seven standing committees of the Senate, including the Committee on Appropriation, headed by Senator Danjuma Goje; Finance, headed by Senator John Enoh; Banking, Insurance and other financial institutions, headed by Senator Rafiu Ibrahim and the committee on Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),  headed by Senator Abubakar Kyari.

Others committees inaugurated were Public Accounts, headed by Andy Uba; National Security and Intelligence, whose chairman is Senator Sha’aba Lafiagi and Communications, headed by Senator Gilbert Nnaji.

While inaugurating the committees, Saraki asked the lawmakers to hit the ground running, adding that there was every reason to reposition the economy.

Re-install Windows by Formatting Computer Without Losing Data

Sometimes it may so happen that you need to format your computer to re-install Windows (be it any version). This may occur if your Windows operating system undergoes a stability error in course of time, or if it is seriously affected by the invasion of a virus or Malware that completely disrupts the normal proceedings of your system. Generally, formatting the drive containing the operating system and re-installing Windows does the job, since most of the causes to the problems incurred in a system lies in the System Drive itself. But at times you may need to go with formatting the entire computer if the virus or a foreign invader has already affected one or more drives in addition to the System Drive.

Now, formatting and reinstalling Windows should not be a problem if you have the Windows Installation CD/DVD, or a bootable USB drive. The dilemma starts when you have some important documents stored in your system that you don’t wish to be deleted when you are bound to format the whole computer. This is because, in such a case, all contents of your hard drive gets erased including your personal or important documents. You can always make a backup of these documents in your external storage device, if you have one. But in some cases, where the space required is more than you can provide for, this may not be the solution. Moreover, this process may be time consuming, and may pose to be a potential threat for further virus invasion.

We, here at Tech-Tips-Geek, plow 2 different methods to format your entire computer to re-install Windows without losing any data.

Method 1 : Using the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard

A procedure to create a full backup of your important data before performing a full format of your computer is by using the “Files and Settings Transfer” (FAST) wizard of your Windows operating system. To execute this procedure follow the steps below :

1. Click “Start” and navigate to All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Files and Settings Transfer Wizard.

2. The wizard opens. Continue by clicking on “Next”.

3. You will be asked if  the computer you are using is the “New Computer” or “Old Computer”. Select “Old Computer” and then proceed with clicking on “Next”.

4. The “Select Transfer Method” window appears. Select the option “Other (for example, removable drive or network drive)”. Browse to select a drive where you want to store your important documents in the box below. Make sure to select a drive that has enough space to store the data to be safely kept, i.e., data you don’t wish to get deleted. Click “Next” to continue with the data transfer process.

The transferring or copying process starts. This process takes some time to complete. The estimated time depends upon the total size of the files being transferred and the speed of your system.

After the files are copied and the transfer process ends, exit the “Files and Settings Transfer Wizard”. Your computer is now ready to be entirely formatted.

Now, insert the Windows installation CD or DVD and reboot your computer. Perform a normal installation of your Windows operating system by entirely formatting your computer, i.e, clearing your complete hard drives of their contents (if you saves the backup to a removable disk, otherwise format only the installation drive) .

After Windows is completely installed, and the system restarts with a fresh new copy of Windows, you need to recover the files and documents that you have previously saved in order to prevent them from being deleted. To recover those files, follow the steps described below :

  • Click on Start > All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Files and Settings Transfer Wizard.

  • The “FAST” wizard opens up. Continue by clicking on “Next”.

  • You are given three options : <i> To create a wizard disk in ; <ii> To use an existing wizard disk ; <iii> That you don’t need  a wizard disk, since you have already stored the files to be recovered in another location. Select the 3rd option as you have previously stored the files to “Old Computer”. Then click on “Next” to proceed to the next step.

  • The “Select a Transfer Method” box appears and like in the previous scenario, select the option “Other (for example, removable drive or network drive)” as you have to recover the saved files from the location you have stored them in. Specify the drive location where you have previously saved your documents by clicking on “Browse”. Continue the recovery process with “Next”.

The files starts to be recovered as the transfer process commences. These files, that you had previously stored, are transferred from the “Old Computer” to the “New Computer”. You can now access this data normally as you did in the previous versions.

[Tip : Install all programs that are required before recovering the files using the “FAST” wizard, so that the recovered files work in order after you recover them.]

Method 2 : Using Repair Option During Installation

With your computer turned on, insert the Windows installation CD/DVD and then reboot your system. When your computer restarts, follow the instructions to boot from the CD or DVD. The Windows Setup wizard starts and Windows checks the hardware configuration of your computer for the installation process.

When the “Welcome to Setup” screen appears, press ENTER to select the option “To set up Windows now”. Make sure to not press “R” as this selects the “Recovery Console” option.

When the next screen appears, press F8 to accept the license agreement for Microsoft Software and continue.

The installation wizard searches for any previous versions of Windows located in your computer and of course it will find one, since you still have the Windows operating system in your computer. You will be optioned to either repair the selected copy of Windows that appears on your screen by pressing “R”, or to install a fresh copy of Windows by pressing “ESC”.

Press “R” to select the option to repair your existing Windows operating system. Windows starts copying files to your computer hard drive.

Once the copying process is complete, you will be asked to restart your system on which abide to the request. On restarting, continue the process of installation just like you would in case of a normal one. After the total installation process is complete, you can access all your previous data along with all previously installed programs in a fresh copy of Windows.

You have formatted your computer, installed a new fresh copy Windows, removed all anomalies that were causing you problems previously, and you haven’t lost any data along with being enabled to access all of your previously installed programs. Surely, these two procedures to format your computer without losing your important and classified data are gonna be of help to you.

Buhari Sacks EFCC Chairman, Appoints No-Nonsense Officer

President Muhammadu Buhari may be slow in the eyes of many critics but Mr President is taking his time to put things in place to ensure he delivers on his mandate and campaign promises to Nigerians.

Just hours to the inauguration of the Federal Executive Council to usher in the Ministers who will work with him to implement his policies and programs, Buhari has fired the Chairman of EFCC.

Ibrrahim Lamorde has been removed as chairman of the anti-corruption agency and he has immediately been replaced with a man described as a no-nonsense investigator, Ibrahim Magu.

The new EFCC boss, Magu, is a top level official of the Economic and Governance Unit of the EFCC.

Mr. Magu is known as a no-nonsense investigator of the commission at its inception. He was removed along with several other key officials by Farida Waziri when she became EFCC chairman in 2008.

Buhari brought Magu back in a move seen as strategic to kick start the fight against corruption.

Pro Biafra Activists Overrun Enugu

Hundreds of Pro-Biafra supporters stormed Enugu metropolis at the wee hours of Sunday, protesting the continued detention of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu and demanding urgent recognition of the Sovereign State of Biafra.

This came as Nnamdi Kanu,Director, Radio Biafra was arrested and arraigned secretly at the Magistrate Court,Wuse 11,Abuja by the Department of State Security Services,DSS, but was later granted bail on October 19.

The protesters clad in Biafra red and black colours, marched through major streets of Enugu metropolis chanting anti-Federal Government slogans insisted that the DSS should quickly release Nnamdi following the fulfillment of his stringent bail conditions by his Lawyer,Mr. Vincent Obetta.

They were however peaceful as motorists were allowed to ply without any confrontation.

In a text message to Vanguard from the factional Director of Information,Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra,MASSOB,Mr. Uchenna Madu,”we are in full support of the ongoing massive demonstration against the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu by DSS.

“Our factional members are part of the ground breaking protest and will continue with IPOB till our demand for Nnamdi Kanu’s release is achieved. For the sake of Biafra love for our fatherland and the spirit of brotherhood,MASSOB shall continue to identify with genuine, selfless Biafra agitation as showcased with Nnamdi Kanu.

“We warn the Federal Government to immediately release Nnamdi now or before Wednesday or face a severe action that will bring Nigeria to her knees. Ndigbo,South-south geopolitical zone are more wiser, united and hungry for Biafra now. Only some few disgruntled elements and Abuja errand boys from eastern region are always against Biafra.

“MASSOB shall hold Igbo Governors,National Assembly members, traditional rulers and opinion leaders responsible if Nnamdi Kanu is not released coming week. Continued detention of Nnamdi will worsen the already fragile security situation in Nigeria. MASSOB,IPOD and other genuine group are now ready to unleash the potency of non violence which includes civil disobedience, civil unrest, non cooperation, massive boycott,as was done during the emancipation struggle of Ghandi of India and Martin Luther King Jnr”

What has changed since Buhari became President?

In about three weeks from now, precisely on November 29, 2015, it would be six months since Muhammadu Buhari, flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the last presidential election, assumed office as President. The fundamental slogan or catch phrase of his party during the electioneering campaigns was “change.”

Now, APC’s noisy “gospel of change” was anchored on relentless castigation of the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan, and on the tantalising offer of positive change ifthe party was voted into power at the federal level. On the other hand, the campaign machinery of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), could not effectively repair the serious damage done to Jonathan’s electability arising from APC’s constant reminders of how Jonathan and his team mismanaged the country.

Although in every serious electoral contest for high political office contending parties try everything to win, in the weeks and months leading up to the March 28 presidential election the APC was more successful than its rival in projecting the hyperbolic narrative of a national partyfielding a tested and trusted presidential candidate who is capable of rescuing the country from sixteen years of PDP’s unimpressive leadership.

Even so, Buhari’s electoral victory was partly due to massive rigging in Northern Nigeria, a fact several self-appointed pro-democracy activists and champions of good governance conveniently ignore or pretend to be unimportant both for assessing the quality of the electoral process that led to Buhari’s emergence as President and for the character of governance that would emerge afterwards. Certainly, not all votes credited to Jonathan, especially in the South East and South South, were validly obtained. However, to appreciate the level of rigging that led to his defeat, consider the presidential election results declared in Kano State, a state that is among the educationally less developed states.

According to the results, out of 2.3 million votes cast, Buhari had a whopping 1.9 million, whereas slightly over 200,000 votes were credited to Jonathan. Interestingly, the Returning Officer (a Professor) who announced these apparently fictitious figures also claimed there were no voided votes, no single wrongly filled ballot paper! Only fanatic Buharimaniacs and gullible Nigerians accept without question the obviously manufactured results from Kano state. In my view, exaggerated praises of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) led by Professor Attahiru Jega are unwarranted given the significant logistic problems that attended the elections nationwide and numerous cases of electoral malpractices perpetrated by the two dominant parties in their areas of influence with the connivance of INEC officials and security personnel.

Former President Jonathan had enough reasons to contest Buhari’s victory at the courts. But he wisely chose not to, unlike Buhari who, driven by a bloated sense of self-righteous indignation and messianic pretensions, refused to acknowledge his opponents’ victories on two different occasions even after the Supreme Court had passed judgement on the matter. Indeed, that singular action by Goodluck Jonathan proved doubting Thomases wrong who thought that incumbent Presidents of African countries are temperamentally incapable of conceding electoral defeat in the spirit of good sportsmanship devoid of bitterness. Now that Jonathan is out of the picture, President Buhari has been in charge for about six months.

Nigerians who expected immediate radical departure from “business as usual” if he won are gradually coming to terms with the painful reality that they might have been deceived by highfaluting fantastic promises of the APC. Garba Shehu and some kingpins of the new ruling party have disowned certain campaign documents the party used in soliciting for votes.

President Buhari, Adams Oshiomhole, Rotimi Amaechi and Lai Mohammed are always complaining about the sorry state of the economy and mind-bending corruption allegedly perpetrated by the immediate past administration. In addition, the knee-jerk approach to governance by the APC federal administration – all this suggests that the party has no well-thought out coordinated strategy and action plan for the transformative change Nigerians were yearning for.

But why did so many people believe the APC propaganda of change? Why did a broad section of the population, including those with high-sounding academic titles, forget their thinking caps while responding to the change shibboleth without well-structured plan for its concrete actualisation offered by the APC during the campaigns? Answers to these questions are complex, but we can highlight the more important ones.

To begin with, inspite of commendable successes of the immediate past administration in agriculture, drastic reduction in the wage bill of federal government because of the new biometric payroll system, power sector reforms and infrastructural development etc, Jonathan’s failure to present an image of a determined and dogged fighter of corruption and impunity generated resentment among Nigerians who felt that he lacked the iron will needed to tackle the problem squarely.

Additionally, the living condition of the most vulnerable Nigerians did not improve significantly when Jonathan was in office. Indeed, in some cases the situation worsened principally as a result of the Boko Haram terrorism in the North East, epileptic electricity, sluggish growth in the real sector and sabotage by certain elements who did not want Jonathan to continue in office beyond May 29, 2015.

Therefore, although APC’s change slogan probably was more propaganda than substance, millions of Nigerians wanted improvement in their existential conditions. And since, as far as they were concerned, the possibility for positive change would be higher if a new party is voted in to replace the fumbling PDP, the people embraced the promise of change enthusiastically. We must mention the unflinching determination of Ango Abdullahi, Junaid Mohammed, Rabiu Kwankwaso and some other prominent members of the Northern establishment who wanted political power to return to the North at all cost. This lust for power, judging from the historical experience of Northern domination of the federal government since 1970, was not motivated by desire to liberate the suffering masses in Northern Nigeria from poverty, illiteracy, unemployment, Islamic feudal servitude, diseases and premature death.

Instead, for core Northern members of what Professor Ben Nwabueze called the “invisible government,” political power at the centre is an instrument for maintaining the status quo in which public resources are surreptitiously funnelled into their private pockets using the instrumentality of the state. From a more sinister perspective, such people see power as a tool for actualising the internal imperialist visions of Ahmadu Bello and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa.

Finally, the campaign of change by APC was very effective: the party cunningly convinced Nigerians that change was in the air and that it was time to try a new party at the federal level in order to halt the deteriorating situation all over the country. Consequently, millions of Nigerians who voted for Buhari found the change slogan attractive and persuasive. Yet, to make people accept the slogan of change is one thing, to translate it into concrete positive transformation of the living conditions of Nigerians is a different thing altogether.

The pertinent question that rears up from the discussion above is – what has changed since President Buhari assumed office? Obviously, the answer to that question will depend on how the phenomenon of change is interpreted and the context in which the notion is applied, because the appearance of change does not necessarily mean that real change has taken place.

Generally, the word “change” connotes “to alter or make different, to make to pass from one state or condition to another.” It follows that for genuine change to occur in a socio-political environment, certain fundamentals in the society must undergo transformation. Yet, it is another matter whether the change in question is positive or the very opposite.

In order to ascertain whether there has been any real change (or changes) since Buhari became President, it is essential to consider a number of factors, particularly the situation of things before he assumed office and the situation of things right now, together with the direction his administration is moving the country.

To be continued

According to Vanguard, when they visited Gaskia College

yesterday, normal school activities had resumed as students

were seen in their respective classes receiving lectures.

Officials from the office of Educational Quality Assurance,

Zone 14, were also seen in the school, compiling reports of

the incident.

A man who identified himself as the Vice Principal said he

couldn’t talk to reporters.

However, a student, who spoke on condition of anonymity,

said:

“There are several cult factions in the school. It is an open

secret that many students are involved in cult-related

activities and the use of charms.

“One of the common charms used by some of the

students is called ‘no touch blood’ , which is a very

poisonous charm that kills instantly when it comes in

contact with blood.

“Perhaps, in the case of Saheed, his killer could have tried

to test the potency of the charm.”

Another senior student of the school revealed that that

Hammed only resumed for the term on Monday. He said

Hammed had failed woefully and was supposed to repeat

SSS 2. He said he used to be in the same class as the

deceased when they were in SS2 but the deaceased passed

and was promoted to SSS 3. But he stopped coming to

school.

He said:

“On Monday, his father brought him to school to see the

principal. Only for the incident to occur on Wednesday.”

APC lied on ‘N5,000 for jobless youths’, says PDP

In response to the drama at the senate on Wednesday over the “pre-election promise” of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to pay N5,000 a month to jobless Nigerian youths, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says the ruling party never set out to fulfill its promise.

In a statement released on Thursday by Olisah Metuh, its national publicity secretary, PDP said it did not expect President Muhammadu Buhari to fulfil his campaign promises because he came into power on the strength of lies his party sold to them. “Wednesday’s rejection by APC senators of the N5, 000 monthly stipends, which they promised Nigerians during the electioneering, underscored the monumental hypocrisy of their party in getting to power by means of deceit and false promises to Nigerians,” it said.

“The development is a clear confirmation of the fact that the APC is a party of hypocrites, who never had the intentions of honouring any of their campaign promises. The PDP declares that it is absolutely obvious to all that the APC came to power riding on monumental lies and deceit in making promises they had no intentions to keep. All they wanted was to get into power and they achieved this with their lying tongues.

“Indeed, the unanimity displayed by the APC senators in rejecting the promised N5,000 monthly welfare package, especially coming after their party and the presidency had made futile efforts to distance themselves from it, further stresses the duplicitous spirit of the APC and its reprehensible insensitivity to the feelings and aspirations of Nigerians, especially the unsuspecting youths, women and the indigent, who they shamelessly swindled with false promises.

“From the foregoing therefore, Nigerians should not expect any sincere action from the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC government on the other promises, including monthly allowance to discharged but unemployed NYSC members, free meals and scholarship to school children, free houses, bringing the naira to the same value with the dollar.

“Our position remains that the APC has sufficiently confirmed to the world that they have a lot to learn on the leadership values of honesty, integrity, credibility and forthrightness.

“Finally, we invite Nigerians to note the powers amply vested on them by the constitution under a democracy as we urge them to stand on such powers and hold the APC and its government accountable for all their campaign promises.”

Tragic fashion student took her own life just hours after scattering ashes of ex-boyfriend who killed himself

Hannah Greensides, 21, found dead six weeks after death of Julian Barthel

Inquest told that Miss Greensides and Mr Barthel, 32, made a suicide pact

But her father refuted these claims at the hearing in Crewe

However, he said Mr Barthel’s death in May this year had ‘torn her apart’

A fashion student killed herself just hours after she helped to scatter the ashes of her ex-boyfriend who had also taken his own life, an inquest was told.

Hannah Greensides, 21, was found dead by her father in a field near the family’s home in Alderley Edge, Cheshire on June 14, six weeks after the death of her former boyfriend Julian Barthel, 32.

An inquest into Miss Greensides’s death heard how a friend of Mr Barthel had claimed the pair made a ‘suicide pact’ a fortnight before he died on May 2.

He was found hanged by a dog walker in Alderley Edge, and his inquest in September was told that he had left a note urging Miss Greensides to watch a film with a suicide plotline.

But Miss Greensides’s father Nigel Greensides refuted claims the couple, who had met while working at nearby pub The Merlin, had pledged to kill themselves together, and called the suggestion ‘rubbish’.

‘There was no evidence there was a suicide pact, my daughter took her own life but there’s nothing to suggest that,’ he said. ‘I think it’s wrong to suggest that.

Instead he told the inquest that Miss Greensides, who had experienced mental health difficulties including depression, had been ‘abused’ during her relationship with Mr Barthel, and that he had even been reported to the police after one assault.

He added that Miss Greensides, who had been working as a waitress during a break from her studies, had told her younger sister that she had to leave Mr Barthel because he ‘was bad for me’ before their deaths.

The inquest heard Miss Greensides had started to develop mental health difficulties upon leaving home for university, and that Mr Barthel’s suicide had ‘torn her apart’.

Her father told the inquest at Crewe’s Municipal Building: ‘She was very down. She found it very very hard.

‘We decided to go away after the funeral to give us something else to do. We went to Istanbul for four days and it was one of the best family holidays we have ever had.

‘But when we got back it was back to reality, Hannah was quite down.’

Miss Greensides’s GP told the inquest that she had a history of self-harm and depression.

Senior Cheshire coroner Nicholas Rheinberg also heard that Miss Greensides had been prescribed anti-psychotic medication and anti-depressants to combat her conditions.

But a number of her friends and family members told the inquest that before her death she had been ‘getting better’, and making plans for the future.

Recording a verdict of suicide, Mr Rheinberg said: ‘Hannah was a very intelligent young lady who was also dogged by depression but led a normal life apart from problems that surfaced from time to time.

‘She entered into a relationship with a young man that at times was fulfilling but at times had negative effects, a volatile relationship in one moment there was some physical violence and at another they were enjoying each other’s company as if nothing had happened.

‘Hannah resolved to end the relationship and if it had ended there I think this tragedy would not have unravelled. Sadly the person in question took his own life and that clearly had a depressing effect on Hannah.’

Cristiano Ronaldo was an unwanted baby... but God didn't want me to have an abortion, reveals star's mum as new film gives us a unique look at greatness who nearly never was

  • New Cristiano Ronaldo film Ronaldo is released worldwide on November 9

  • The love Ronaldo has for his son, Cristiano Jnr, and his mother is clear

  • Movie also covers his father’s alcoholism and his life away from football

  • Ronaldo is a compelling watch, even if his vanity was behind the concept

There is a scene at the end of the new film about Cristiano Ronaldo’s surreal and strange life when his mother, Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro, explains how differently things may have been.

‘I wanted to have an abortion but God did not want that to happen,’ she says to camera. ‘Cristiano was an unwanted baby but he’s given me so much joy.’

Earlier, there was another scene that is no less revealing but for different reasons. It is shot at Ronaldo’s table in a restaurant while he is with friends. ‘Tell me the best player in the world?’ he asks, before quickly answering ‘me’ and bursting into animated laughter.

His friends are initially hesitant but once he starts bellowing, they do as well. Then he raises a finger and the laughter must stop. On cue, it does. ‘Until January,’ he says, a nod to his obsession with the Ballon d’Or award for the world’s best player.

Together, those two scenes offer a neat summary of a fascinating film, which shares plenty of warm, interesting perspectives of a great athlete but also largely cements the impression that Ronaldo, for all of the love he clearly holds for his family, feels at least an equal attraction to himself.

On one hand, we see the Ronaldo who dotes on his five-year-old son and comforts his own widowed mother as she takes sedatives to deal with the anxiety of watching her boy play; on the other, we see the Ronaldo of popular depiction, surrounded by people who, in the course of the 92-minute film, barely challenge a word he says. He is the king of his surreal world and he is pretty pleased about it all.

The vanity of his personality is surely why he agreed to allow such access, which included the mounting of a camera in his shower – he spends a lot of time topless, believe it or not – and totalled 14 months of filming by the makers of the brilliant Senna movie.

Ultimately, the film is compelling. It opens with him describing his pain at seeing Lionel Messi win a fourth Ballon d’Or – Ronaldo plainly attaches enormous value to the award, regardless of what he might say elsewhere about the greater good of team glories – and it loosely tracks his journey to winning the gong for the third time earlier this year. Along the way, and between his and his agent’s frequent attempts to blame put his poor World Cup last year on injury, the insights are numerous.

There is a shot of him deliberating over which underpants to select from a draw organised with an obsessive’s touch. There are, in deeper moments, memories from Ronaldo and his family of his late father’s alcoholism.

‘Although he never mistreated his children, I became his victim,’ says Ronaldo’ s mother. His brother, Hugo, talks about his own addictions, and his mother speaks of the feeling she ‘abandoned’ Ronaldo when he left Madeira for Lisbon, aged 12, to join Sporting.

Ronaldo says: ‘I cried every day. People say we have money and cars but we suffered.’

Significant attention is paid to what his life is like, including one scene where a fan breaks down in tears after scaling a fence to meet him. ‘He knows I exist,’ she sobs.

Another fan later yells at him through a closed taxi window because he did not sign her ball. The claustrophobia comes across, but his melancholic claim to being an ‘isolated person’ jars with the amount of time he spent in the past 12 years hunting cameras.

What is not in doubt is Ronaldo’s affection for his son, Cristiano, who at one stage flusters his father by saying a stranger in the street is ‘bigger than you’. He also offers to teach Ronaldo how to take penalties.

Those moments add up to a unique look at a modern great of football, who nearly never was. To Ronaldo’s preening satisfaction, his mother made a different decision.

‘Ronaldo’ will be released in cinemas for one night only and on DVD, Blu-Ray and Digital download in the UK on Monday, November 9
