Rev. Fr. James Anelu, The Parish Priest of Holy Trinity CAtholic Church, Ewu-owa Gberigbe in Ikorodu, Lagos, has been suspended for banning Igbo songs and chorus in the parish.
it was learned that Ahelu had angrily stopped a soul-lifting chorus during the second collection stating that the Igbos cannot keep dominating other people in his catholic parish. he also argued that the excess of Ndigdo must be contained.
He cited the case of his Benin Dioceses where Igbos dominate to the point of becoming the bishop, saying that the spirit of God recognizes only geographical language of the parish.
The Catholic Archbishop of Lagos, Alfred Martins, while announcing the suspension in the letter dated February 7, said, " It has been brought to our notice that Rev. Anelu, the priest-in-charge of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, made some completely unacceptable comments about songs being sung in the church and unsavory remarks that do not represent the church's position on the common brotherhood of people of all tribes and religions.
"For this reason, he has been asked to proceed on an indefinite leave of absence to give way for thorough investigation of all matters relating to his ministry on the parish.
